Our widely used Roller Barrier Anti Climb System is providing effective anti climb protection and security across a huge range of properties of all shapes and sizes. In our latest 90 second video we describe how Roller Barrier is installed around corners and bends.
Roller Barrier is a totally non-aggressive yet highly effective anti climb barrier, designed, developed and manufactured by Insight Security. The system is very simple, consisting of side-by-side rotating roller cups threaded onto a robust supporting shaft. The Roller Cup dimensions have been carefully designed to make them too large to be gripped. The rotating, unstable barrier therefore presents a protective hurdle that can’t be climbed over. And unlike aggressive, spiked anti climb barriers, there is no possibility of injuring anyone who might foolishly attempt to climb over. This has made Roller Barrier the primary anti climb barrier choice for locations and establishments where children or vulnerable people might attempt to climb where they are not supposed to.
What is a Roller Barrier Run?
In a previous video we described what a ‘Roller Barrier Run’ is.
A Roller Barrier Run is simply a linear length of Roller Barrier that doesn’t have any sharp variations in height or direction along its length. For example, if Roller Barrier is being installed around the perimeter of a property with a perfectly rectilinear boundary, consisting of four sides with right angled corners, the installation would involve four Roller Barrier runs, one for each of the four sides. Determining these lengths is essential when planning a Roller Barrier installation in order to acquire the required amount of Roller Barrier including rotating cups, supporting shafts, mounting brackets, end fixings and attachment fastenings.
Installing Roller Barrier Around Corners
Roller Barrier is available directly from our store in linear lengths from 1 metre upwards. When installing around or into corners the primary objective is to ensure there are no gaps where an unwanted intruder or climber can potentially gain a hand-hold.
Installing Roller Barrier into an internal corner simply requires each Roller Barrier run, either side of the corner, to butt up against each other to ensure there isn’t a gap and the entire boundary is fully protected by the barrier.

When installing around external corners, one run is terminated precisely at the corner while the adjoining Roller Barrier run is extended to overlap and therefore not present any vulnerable gaps in the anti climb protection. The overlapping section of Roller Barrier will generally consist of up to 3 additional Roller Barrier cups before the final mounting bracket.
Dealing With Height Variations
Property boundaries, fences, walls and rooftops that need anti climb protection not only have corners, they also often have height variations that need to be contended with. Roller Barrier anti climb protection, in these circumstances, is typically achieved by overlapping linear Roller Barrier runs, as recommended for external corners. Sometimes height changes require vertical, angled or sloping sections of Roller Barrier to provide required anti climb protection. The simple, highly versatile Roller Barrier system can be readily adapted to cope with these installation challenges.

As stated, the key requirement when installing Roller Barrier anti climb protection is to make certain there are no gaps where someone might be able to gain a hand hold. This is achieved by either butting one length or Roller Barrier up against another or by overlapping sections of Roller Barrier.
