BOC Edwards enlisted Bubble Automation to help with their pump test facility at Shoreham in West Sussex. The system comprises of four Wonderware Intouch applications with thirteen Allen Bradley SLC500 PLC's using DH+ networks performing the control and pump test duties. A further Wonderware Intouch application using Microsoft SQL 6 is used to store all the test data, this also tests and records pump noise data. Bubble Automation were asked to improve the systems performance as there had been several problems with the network speed, causing occasional loss of important test data. This required examination of the SCADA and PLC sections that were associated data transfer and storage, the overall aim was to reduce the network traffic while maintaining pump test times. Minimum disruption to the pump test production schedule was paramount during the restructuring process. The system is now very reliable with no loss of data since restructuring the PLC and SCADA programs.
