Depending on the nature of your business and product you specialise in, a trigger spray head and matching bottle could be the packaging solution that you – and your customer – are looking for. However, whilst these products may look very similar, they distinguish themselves according to their appearance, recyclability and functionality. To help our customers arrive at the right packaging decision, we’re sharing 3 key points to consider when choosing a trigger sprayer and a matching bottle. Thank us later!
Here at Cambrian Packaging, when we say we’re the UK’s leading expert in trigger spray heads, we mean it. As an exclusive stockist for two of the market’s top spray head manufacturers, we’re often approached by companies from virtually all sectors of industry for advice on choosing the perfect trigger spray head and plastic spray bottles to match.
The fact is that this decision will largely depend on the nature of the products you sell: be those sanitising products, automotive products, cleaning agents, pet care products or anything else that requires a containment solution. Regardless of what sector of industry you specialise in, the following 3 considerations should help you arrive at the right decision around packaging. Keep reading to find out more!
#1: Triggers & Chemical Compatibility
In many cases, businesses will specialise in products that might feature a specific chemical formula. However, it’s important to remember that these don’t necessarily have to be aggressive in nature. Industries which may specialise in such products include, but are not limited to:
Automotive & car care products;
Cleaning products;
Horticultural products; and
Medical & pharmaceutical products.
Let’s look at formulations for products like glue and tar remover, as well as tire cleaners, which often contain naphtha. These chemicals will effectively melt the internals of a trigger, causing it to jam. However, all the manufacturers Cambrian works with offer the same design triggers with modified internal parts to navigate this challenge.
Conversely, caustic products, bleaches, and the likes will cause triggers with metal springs to corrode and eventually fail. That is why we only stock all plastic triggers, with the exception of our industrial trigger range which has a metal spring that doesn’t come in contact with the chemicals. This is an upgraded option and provides higher resistance to caustics and solvents.
It is also worth considering how more viscous products should be contained. For example, insecticides and pesticides will have a higher viscosity and are designed to adhere to a surface and crystallise. For products of this nature, Cambrian offers a range of options, including thicker nozzles and pre-compression triggers which prevent the product from coming into contact with air. Regardless of the challenge at-hand, Cambrian is here to provide a solution.
Before deciding on anything on packaging, make sure you address this point first. Take our advice: if you’re dispensing any form of aggressive chemical or agent, order a sample and test the chemical compatibility for yourself.
#2: What Kind of Spray Pattern is Best for My Product?
If you need a packaging solution for a spray-based product, knowing your optimum spray pattern is essential.
Spray patterns are extremely important and determine a lot more than merely how much product is dispersed in one stroke. However, there’s a lot more to it than that. Spray patterns are extremely important in relation to the actual effectiveness of your product, determining how they impact on a certain material.
Spray: By opting for spray, companies can choose from spray/jet, spray only, fine mist and adjustable.
Foam: This is the second choice available, and these options will differ depending on the nature of the product you’re dispensing. For example, if you want your product to both adhere to and be visible on a vertical surface, we recommend a dry foam. Dry foam has a ‘meringue’ look to it and is commonly used with products like shower cleaners. On the other hand, wet foam is an ideal option where some foaming is necessary (bleach-based surface cleaners are a great example.)

#3: The Importance of Design and Style
It’s true: chemical compatibility and spray patterns are some of the biggest considerations you can make when it comes to packaging your product. However, your choice of packaging is also one of the biggest drivers of brand recognition and brand identity that you can have control over.
Trigger spray heads come in a variety of colours and styles. Indeed, when ordering with Cambrian Packaging, you can choose from a wide array of styles, each offering their own unique style and special user features.
Colour: Trigger spray heads are available in a selection of colours, including translucent, black and white. Thinking carefully about your choice of spray trigger head colour will allow you to complement and match it with a plastic spray bottle. Notably, the colour you choose will often influence how easily recycled your product is!
Recyclability: Many businesses find that they are subject to Plastic Packaging Tax costs. That’s not because of the recyclability of the plastic bottle, but instead because of the recyclability (or lack of) when it comes to spray trigger heads. By working with the packaging pioneers at Cambrian, you can support your product with a trigger spray head that fully facilitates recycling, helping your company reduce its carbon footprint along the way.
