The UK is the home of invention and entrepreneurship and there are numerous companies working on the development of tomorrow's energy sources and the means of saving this precious commodity; Carrs are assisting many in this quest. In general terms our involvement stems from the ability to fabricate ever smaller and lighter structures in exotic materials which do not corrode, producing high performance products at very reasonable cost. Small is beautiful (and cost effective) The gauge of stratospherically expensive high grade stainless steels and nickel alloys can be reduced when using laser welding because minimal stress is introduced in the process; conventional welding cannot achieve this without distortion occurring. Applications As you would expect, we are unable to go into great detail of the applications on which we are working due to the sensitive nature of leading edge technologies. However here are a few of the areas in which we are presently involved: Batteries - New generation cells for energy storage Fuel cells - Clean electricity from hydrogen and from natural gas Waste reduction - Modern boilers which produce electricity as well as hot water, and heat exchangers which extract waste heat from many industrial and domestic applications Are you working on new ideas for making or saving energy?
