When terminal illness forces its way upon a family it can make life very difficult. Kent-based waste management company Compact & Bale are helping to raise money for a number of charities that positively improve the lives of people affected. Macmillan Cancer Support is just one such charity.
Compact & Bale will be holding their MacMillan Coffee Morning on 25th September for the second year. Last year Compact and Bale raised £300 for the charity but according to Hannah Rainey, Marketing at Compact and Bale, ‘this year’s results will be even better. Last year we did well, this year we’re going to do fantastically. I’m determined to raise as much as possible – we’ve all been affected by cancer.’
Macmillan nurses provide valuable support to those suffering from cancer not just in the later stages but also from diagnosis. They are the fourth emergency service in regards to families of sufferers too; explaining ways to help look after your loved ones and generally they are the people monitoring their care needs.
‘In the last 9 months of my mother’s life the Macmillan Nurses were my first point of call in regards to what was happening with my Mum, they counselled me over the phone, sorted out pain relief when Mum’s needs changed and to all intents and purposes were the main medical contact towards the end,’ says Denise Wilton, Managing Director at Compact and Bale ‘they are funded by donations we all raise, they are not paid by the NHS so charitable donations are key to keeping their work going. Without them there would have been very little support for my family and Mum.’
Compact and Bale have increased their involvement with a number of charities throughout 2015. As Compact and Bale continue to work with the Philippine Community Fund, a few other charities in aid of different causes have also been put onto the company’s agenda for the year, one being Macmillan Cancer Support.
