You must register as a waste carrier, broker or dealer if you do any of the following as part of your business:
• No Registration required if you carry waste that you have produced on a one off basis.
• But if you start to do this regularly, you will have to register as a lower tier waste carrier
Lower Tier Waste Carriers – For waste producers transporting their own waste. There is no charge to register.
• transport your own waste regularly (from January 2014)
• transport construction or demolition waste (even if it’s a one off)
Upper Tier Waste Carriers – For all who transport waste which you don’t produce. If you already hold a waste carriers licence, this will be automatically transferred to an Upper Tier licence. The cost is £154 and is valid for three years.
• transport or dispose of waste for someone else
• buy or sell waste
• act as a waste broker (arrange for someone to handle other people’s waste)
