Good NEWS at Thetford Recycling Centre!

At 18 of the 19 recycling centres operated by NEWS in Norfolk individual mobile compactors are used but as Thetford is a new design, split level site a different approach was needed. The team at NEWS invited waste compactor specialists Compact & Bale Ltd to review the Thetford site’s operation. The recycling centre was designed so residents could deposit materials into the containers below from the upper level. To ensure the containers were fully loaded to keep transport costs down, an efficient method of compaction was needed. Packmat’s mobile roll compactor model PK421 offered the ideal solution. Prior to the Packmat installation, NEWS were using a Volvo 360 machine with a grab attachment. The machine was compacting waste in the containers already but often causing damage to the containers and the concrete bay. The Packmat wasn’t chosen just to increase compaction, but to save money on potential damage. Due to it’s twin motor design, the Packmat is also able to “back-hoe” waste in the containers to ensure even filling and level loads (which it’s competitors cannot). ‘The Packmat PK421 we purchased from Compact & Bale has exceeded expectations.
