Setting Standards for Electrical Products
The European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation (CENELEC) is responsible for setting standards in the area of electrical engineering. Cranage apply these standards in their day to day operations as a product testing laboratory and manufacturers in this country, as well as others from all over the world, require certification against them. There are 33 member countries participating in this organisation including the United Kingdom and 14 other countries taking part and awaiting full membership. In addition, CENELEC has cooperation agreements with: Canada, PRChina, South Korea, Japan, informal agreement with the USA, and ongoing discussion on a cooperation agreement with Russia. Although CENELEC works closely with the European Union it is not an EU institution. The motivation for any country to join CENELEC and participate in the formulation and adoption of technical standards for electrical engineering is common sense for businesses wanting to trade, regardless of their political affiliation. Cranage is accredited to evaluate electrical and electronic products for UK, European and International markets.
