Belper Thornton’s Development
DNS are excited to be working with Robertson Construction on the 19m redevelopment project of the former Thornton’s factory site in Belper, Derbyshire. The burnt-out factory site on Derwent Street will be redeveloped as an integrated community care facility for the elderly to replace Ada Belfield Home for Older People, and will be a new location for the Belper public library. The retention of the facade of the Castle blouse and hosiery factory, which later became Thornton’s, and the Empire Music Hall, the oldest building on the site, will preserve the UNESCO Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage status that Belper obtains. DNS will be working on the first phase of the project consisting of cut and fill of required levels, removal of excess materials off site and spread and levelling of crushed hard-core over the site. Works are due to commence in April and are expected to continue for a period of 3 weeks.
