Software Engineer – Group Lead

An exciting opportunity has now become available for an experienced Software Engineer to lead our Software Team to enable the delivery of software design, prototype development and testing for client and internal projects. As Group Lead of the software team, you will work closely with project managers and other members of multi-disciplinary teams. You will have contact with clients and suppliers as well as being involved in the full project lifecycles. Your main duties will include: · To be responsible for the overview of the Software Team and assist in the undertaking of software design, coding, prototyping, testing and bug fixing work as required for individual projects; · Line management of group members on a daily basis and taking the lead in annual performance appraisal and resource management for the group including Project resource allocation and capacity planning including recruitment requirements; · Supporting the sales process with Software input; · Maintaining & developing the company’s capability in the skill group area; · To work to the policies and processes defined by the eg technology Business Management System. The successful candidate will have: · Experience of managing a software team; · Honours degree in relevant field or equivalent; · Good understanding of writing code for: - desktop operating systems - eg Windows - OS X - Linux; · Good understanding of writing code for: - embedded operating systems - eg Windows Embedded - FreeRTOS - WindRiver - QNX or similar; · Logical approach to the identification and solution of software bugs; · Use of C/C++ for embedded code and C# for application development would be an advantage; · Experience in medical device or lab instrumentation development, kernel mode, device drivers or 3D graphics would be an advantage; · Experience in developing for mobile platforms, iOS and / or Android would be an advantage; · Ability to investigate new areas of the industry and willingness to learn new technical skills and develop personal skills; · An understanding of the principles of software engineering, including specification and validation within the full software development life-cycle; · Good communication skills with colleagues, clients and suppliers; · The initiative to work alone and as part of a team, with good time management. eg technology offers an excellent package, including a performance-related bonus, health insurance and a pension scheme. Salary will be dependent upon individual candidate’s expertise and experience.
