Flexitallic Builds Presence in Aberdeen
16-02-2015
The Flexitallic Group, the global market leader in the manufacture and supply of specialised sealing products and services, is continuing to build its presence in the North Sea oil & gas sector with an expansion of its operations in Aberdeen.
Located on the Wellheads Industrial Estate, the business is already the distribution arm for the Flexitallic portfolio of specialised sealing products including its range of gaskets designed and manufactured to meet the requirements and safety-focused operations of the oil and gas industry.
Previously operating as Sealex, the business has now been brought into line with the rest of the group and has been rebranded as Flexitallic.
Under the Flexitallic banner, the business, which is led by a team of experienced sealing industry specialists, will additionally provide the Aberdeen market with access to a wider range of services from the group and a broader suite of its sealing products.
Created for the upstream and midstream oilfield and industrial markets, they include, pipe supports, custom rubber mouldings, specialist bolting and mandrel wrapped products.
The Flexitallic Group is the international expert in the design, manufacture and distribution of specialised sealing solutions and products serving the oil & gas, power generation, chemical and petrochemical industries in emerging and developed markets.
Focused on the upstream, downstream and power generation sectors, it has operations in France, the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Singapore and China plus a network of worldwide licensing partners and distributors.
It is continually innovating to create a product range to address sealing and joint-integrity issues. Among them is the Flange Rescue Gasket (FRG), which was developed in response to industry-wide Flange Face Corrosion issues and became the first ever solution to seal damaged flanges without the need for replacement or machining.
The gasket is fabricated from another of Flexitallic’s innovative products, highly compressible Sigma® PTFE, which ensures that the FRG conforms to damaged flange surfaces to seal and prevent further corrosion.
Alongside the FRG, is ‘Change’, the most significant innovation in the sealing sector since the creation of the spiral wound gasket, by Flexitallic, more than 100 years ago. ‘Change’ is an industry-first, which delivers a more dynamic seal with superior compression and recovery than any other gasket on the market.
‘Change’ was created as a direct response to customers’ long-term heat exchanger problems, particularly in the oil & gas industry. It was introduced at a significant time for the industry when further improvements in joint integrity are being sought along with a renewed focus on the prevention of hydrocarbon leaks.
Developed over a period of five years, Flexitallic introduced a unique sealing construction to engineer this incredibly resilient metal-wound gasket.
These products, along with the company’s entire range, are available from Flexitallic in Aberdeen, which recently achieved ‘Verified Status’ from internationally-respected oil and gas directory Achilles First Point Assessment (FPAL).
In addition to working closely with the sector to meet product requirements, the Aberdeen branch also supports the development of skills in the sealing industry through the group’s Academy of Joint Integrity.
The Academy is an Energy Institute & ECITB approved training provider and delivers bespoke mechanical joint integrity courses as well as the ECITB critical bolting units.
To deliver the training, the Academy utilises Flange Assembly Demonstration Units (FADU's), which provide practical scenarios to support engineers working in flange assembly, pipeline integrity and hazardous area operation to develop new skills and competencies.
Ricky Marcella, General Manager of Flexitallic in Aberdeen, said:
“We have been proud exponents of the quality and innovation of Flexitallic products as the group’s distribution division for a number of years, but now, as we are completely under the Flexitallic banner, we can increase our offering to the oil & gas sector in Aberdeen.
“Flexitallic is renowned, through its Academy of Joint Integrity, for its commitment to promoting safe working and increasing competency within the sector. This fits very much into the group’s ‘Flexitallic Safe’ objective, which is an overriding approach to safety that encapsulates every element of the way we do business.
“‘Flexitallic Safe’ runs right through our operations, both within our business and when we work onsite with customers. These values are ingrained in every aspect of our operations to ensure our customers can be confident they are employing technology and support services that enhance their own safety culture”
