Anglian Water Apprentice Gains Hands-On Experience

At Gibbons Engineering Group, we take pride in supporting the next generation of engineers, and our partnership with Anglian Water apprentices is a testament to this commitment. Each year, we welcome an apprentice from Anglian Water for two weeks, providing them with hands-on experience both in our workshops and out on site.

This year, we are pleased to have Ryan join us for his apprenticeship placement. His time with us is split between two key areas of our business—our Rewinds & Repairs workshop and on-site service work.

Hands-On Learning in the Workshop

During his first week, Ryan worked closely with our Rewinds & Repairs team, gaining invaluable insight into electric motor and pump servicing. He was introduced to the process of an electric motor rewind, where he learned about stripping, cleaning, rewinding, and testing motors to bring them back to optimal condition. This hands-on training is essential for understanding the inner workings of motors and pumps—critical equipment for Anglian Water’s operations.

Real-World Experience on Site

In his second week, Ryan is heading out on-site with Charlie, one of our experienced electrical engineers, to visit various Anglian Water locations in the region. This will allow him to see first-hand how motors and pumps operate in real-world conditions and how our engineers diagnose and resolve issues on-site. Working alongside Charlie, Ryan will gain insight into fault-finding, repairs, and maintenance—key skills for any aspiring engineer.

A Long-Term Commitment to Training

Ryan follows in the footsteps of last year’s apprentice, continuing our annual tradition of supporting Anglian Water trainees. By offering these placements, we help apprentices gain essential experience in both a workshop and field setting, ensuring they develop a well-rounded understanding of the industry.

We’re proud to play a role in shaping the future of engineering, giving apprentices like Ryan the practical experience they need to thrive in their careers.
