About Terraprene
03-02-2023
Terraprene® is part of a group of thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) and is available in different compounds, each with varying proportions of renewable raw materials. With a number of different compounds available, this allows for different hardness grades from 40 shore A to 40 shore D depending on your project requirements.
Thermoplastic elastomer – a rubber-like polymer that can vary in softness, some variants can be a soft gel like material. TPE is often used as a rubber alternative due to it’s cost savings in injection moulding compared to the cost of working with rubber in processes such as extrusion.
Shore hardness – a durometer scale that indicates how soft or hard a material is, a lower shore rating means the material is softer. A higher shore rating indicates the material is hard.

The Terraprene® product line is available in different bio mass percentages, varying between 40% and 90%. The great thing about Terraprene® is the compounds behave very similarly to petroleum based TPE’s, meaning the switch over to Terraprene® from petrochemical-based TPE’s is almost seamless.

APPLICATION
Terraprene® can almost directly replace traditional TPE in the production of items such as eco friendly ice cube trays, seals, closures, soft touch cosmetic products or other products that require a rubber-like feel. Below are some product ideas that could be injection moulded in Terraprene® to create a sustainable plastic moulded product.
