Case Study BreadBoard SurfTray
Project: BreadBoard SurfTray
Quantity Produced: 1000 units
What inspired your project?
I partake in a style of surfing called ‘Fringe’ this is involves surfing on unconventional items such as wooden belly boards etc. I ended up finding my forte by surfing on fast food trays of all things! After this I started looking at regular items in a different way, wondering if they could be surfed on. One morning I was having my breakfast and there was a piece of bread laying on my plastic bread board, and I thought ‘I reckon I can surf that’ and it worked!
I looked at various options to turn this into an actual surfing product. I tried acrylic but due to the material density this sank in the water. I then tried speaking with various injection moulders, but none of them would believe in my idea, until I found Great Central Plastics.
What challenges did you face?
We needed to find an injection moulder that was interested in our product idea and could deliver exactly what we needed to bring our concept to life. Great Central Plastics were able to assist in ensuring the BreadBoard SurfTray was both mouldable and functional.
How did GCP help overcome your challenges?
Great Central Plastics helped guide the project to ensure that the final product was functional and vibrant. Running a start up business can be challenging but GCP were able to assist with my requests on a regular basis in order to help keep things on track when not everything was going my way. When other injection moulders didn’t believe in me, Great Central Plastics did! Between us all, we’ve managed to bring a the BreadBoard SurfTray to life.
