Women in Engineering Event 2024

Our Women in Engineering event welcomed nearly 200 students from 17 schools, giving them the opportunity to explore careers in engineering through hands-on activities, inspiring tours, and expert-led workshops.
Encouraging More Women into STEM
At Niftylift, we are passionate about promoting careers in engineering and breaking down barriers in STEM. This November, we hosted our annual Women in Engineering event, inviting young women to experience the world of engineering through interactive workshops, guided factory tours, and practical challenges.
Inspiring Young Minds
This year’s event was a huge success, attracting students from Milton Keynes schools and beyond, including Silverstone UTC, Thornton College, and Bedford Girls’ School. For the first time, we also welcomed students from Royal Latin School in Buckingham and Challney High School for Girls in Luton.
We were particularly pleased to meet two relatives of Niftylift staff—one of whom is now set to return for a week’s work experience in 2025, while the other has chosen Engineering as a GCSE option after attending the event.
A Day of Exciting Activities
Students took part in a variety of hands-on activities, offering them a real-world insight into engineering. These included:
- Control Systems/Hydraulics
- Purchasing
- Production Tasks
- Product & Mechanical Design Challenges
- Factory Tours
The sessions challenged students to design components, problem-solve, and gain a first-hand understanding of production lines.
Welcoming Distinguished Guests
We were honoured to host several notable guests, including:
- Countess Lady Howe, Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire
- Marie Bradburn, Mayor of Milton Keynes
- Amanda Marlow, Hazard Alley Safety Centre
Lady Howe praised the event, emphasising the importance of initiatives that inspire young women to pursue engineering careers:
"It was fantastic to see the young girls so engaged with the activities… The more you can do to offer opportunities for girls to see all the different areas of activity within a business such as yours, the better!"
Making an Impact
The event once again proved to be hugely impactful:
- 83% of attendees said they are now considering a career in engineering—a statistic we have maintained since 2023.
- Teachers and careers advisors shared overwhelmingly positive feedback. Cheryl Hancock from Stantonbury School described the event as a “massive success”, praising our team’s enthusiasm and creativity.
Looking Ahead
A huge thank you to everyone who made this event possible—our enthusiastic students, dedicated team, and inspirational guests. Together, we are shaping a brighter, more inclusive future for engineering.
We look forward to welcoming even more young women in 2025 and continuing to inspire the next generation of engineers! 🚀
