Sustainable Design
Introducing the wonderful work of Sarah Drew, who creates beautiful jewellery from reclaimed materials.
As a society, we're becoming increasingly aware of the words 'sustainable design', which is music to us Nomads' ears. We're always on the look out for great ethical products, and we thought we'd share some of our favourites with you.
For us, sustainability is about being future focused whilst remaining authentic and creative. This is a sentence that perfectly describes the work of the very talented Sarah Drew. A self-confessed collector of 'things', Sarah creates beautiful jewellery from found objects - objects that those without Sarah's envy inducing imagination (me included), would simply walk past without a second glance.
In using materials such as driftwood, sea plastic and slate pebbles with semi-precious stones and eco silver, Sarah creates truly individual, beautiful pieces of jewellery. Eco silver is produced from recycled scrap silver, making it the obvious choice for the environmentally minded maker. Sarah explains that using recycled materials, remaking old broken jewellery or basically 'rubbish' in this way is a sustainable way of creating unique pieces that aren't a strain on new resources, and whose material components are traceable.
We love Sarah's work, and have got our eye on several pieces - The chunky eco silver with gorgeous ocean blues and greens goes perfectly with our new collection.
Sarah also runs recycled jewellery workshops, for those of you who would like to try your hand at creating your own designs. Further details can be found at www.sarahdrew.com, where you can also view her full range.
