The brief was to provide our customer Trac Global with an efficient hydraulic ring main system for their hydraulic test facility in Warwick. The power unit features 2 Artemis E-dyn 96 Digital Displacement® radial piston pumps each driven by a 45KW electric motor. Phoenix worked closely with Artemis to develop a system with the first commercially available E-dyn 96 pumps and controllers.
A significant feature of Digital Displacement® Technology is that not all pistons remain loaded while the pump is at less than full displacement. At partial flow output, only the pistons required to meet the output flow demand are pressurised. Losses from pressurised components that would traditionally scale directly with pressure, will only scale with the number of pistons in use at any one time in the Digital ® Pump. This gives Digital Displacement® pumps exceptional efficiency over a wide range of flow and pressure outputs.
As with many ring main systems the pumps are very rarely both on full load. As the Digital Displacement® Pumps only deliver the fluid required by the system this makes the power unit extremely efficient no matter what demand is required from the system.
