Client Brief
In 2019 Rap Interiors completed the client’s initial office refurbishment in their Maidstone offices. The client appointed Rap Interiors to design and deliver their office refurbishment upon sourcing new premises and relocating to Kings Hill, Kent.
Their chosen office space was left fully fitted out with furniture and finishes from the previous occupant that ceased operating during Covid. Despite it being a fully functional space and operational ready, the client wanted to create a bright, modern, on brand office while taking a sustainable approach to the refurbishment by re-using and re-purposing existing furniture and finishes where possible. Another key requirement was to create a large boardroom to host annual and quarterly meetings with the capability to hold twenty five plus people.

Upon entering the offices, the immediate large blank wall was transformed with grey and teal blue acoustic panels adjoined on a diagonal with v shaped vertical linear cuts. A stainless steel stand-off logo situated on this wall creates a clear branded entrance for staff and visitors as they enter the offices. Additional LED lights were integrated at the top and bottom of this wall which was achieved by building the wall out with a timber frame. As a result, this once dark entrance way was transformed creating a lighter and elevated first impression.
Adjacent to the entrance are full height windows overlooking the landscaped environment outside. To take full advantage of this view our interior designer created a soft breakout area repurposing the client’s existing arm chairs from a previous office project our team completed that were no longer used and were in storage. Taking this approach accommodated the client’s budget, as well as adopting a sustainability mind set for this office refurbishment. This area is subtly divided from the main walkway and kitchen, with a tiered storage unit offering options for planting and general storage.
A second breakout space extends further round with an existing large high back sofa, tables and large feature light pendants. Taking a sustainable approach once again, we reupholstered the sofa seat pad and retained the light pendant and tables. By doing this we were also able to reference the client’s branding and proposed interior design scheme.

The offices already housed a large teapoint including two integrated fridges and furniture located on feature floor tiles. Small alterations were made within this area to bring the space in keeping with the clients branding. These adjustments include the addition of a tiled splash back with blue and white harlequin half tiles. Additionally, a boiling tap was installed for the ease and convenience of the staff.
The feature floor tiles located under the existing furniture were replaced for blue ocean effect tiles. Further café style tables and blue dining chairs were scattered in the open space providing ample dining space for staff to utilise. In addition, on brand poseur height stools were also specified in replace of existing stools.
An existing acoustic hanging panel comprised of leaf shaped acoustics creates a subtle divide between the kitchen area, main corridor and glazed fronted meeting room opposite. Selected leaf shapes were replaced with darker blue ones to incorporate more of the client’s corporate colours.

The client took over the space with height adjustable desks occupying the main office area. The proposed office interior design scheme retained the desks and included an intelligent space plan to support the company’s departmental structure. The new layout allowed ample space for two meeting booths to be located centrally, creating a divide between departments and offering a natural acoustic barrier between two sides of the office. The meeting booths provided additional meeting spaces and bookable workplaces for staff to utilise with necessary privacy when needed.
New branded carpet tiles were installed matching those used in the client’s other recent office refurbishment projects. With sustainability in mind, half the existing desk screens were re-upholstered in a dark blue fabric to incorporate the company’s corporate colours and coordinate with the existing taupe fabric on the remaining half of the screens, which worked well with the overall interior design scheme.
Boardroom Solution
Corporate meeting room with sliding wall in office refurbishment project in Kent.
Office boardroom design with closed operable wall.
Modern office boardroom with open operable door.
Our interior designer provided a large boardroom by adapting two existing meeting rooms which sat alongside the main office area. One meeting room had an angled front which was squared off and opened up to adjoin the adjacent smaller meeting room. The installation of an operable wall creates a flexible meeting space allowing the client to open up the space as one, or divide the space into two rooms according to their meeting requirements.
With this flexibility in mind, the tables were specified with castors that could be moved, joined and locked into place allowing for an agile space that could be reconfigured accordingly. However, once the two tables were joined they could only seat a maximum of eighteen to twenty people. To resolve this issue, the introduction of a built in slim line bench along one wall, with integrated power and planters created seating for more people.
Soft upholstered meeting chairs matching those from previous refurbishments were specified in a neutral fabric, coordinating with the neutral carpet tiles and teal green acoustic wall panels. The teal green was chosen to create a feature wall behind the two large TVs while also expanding the clients branded colour palette with a slightly more playful twist.
Large Meeting Room

Within the large glazed meeting room, the existing boardtable was retained with the addition of new mesh back cantilever meeting chairs. Large pink and blue acoustic light pendants were already in situ in this room. The blue pendants were kept to contrast and compliment the other blue tones in the scheme, while adding a striking statement within the room.
Matching acoustic wall panels from the entrance hall were also installed here to create a feature on the TV wall. Part of the client’s branding includes a graphic wave which was also incorporated within the glass manifestation here and throughout other areas in the offices.
Hybrid Workspaces

There were two further meeting rooms which were not required solely as this purpose by the client. These rooms were redesigned as hybrid work spaces, housing a desk and a small meeting table for staff to utilise on an ad hoc basis, such as visiting staff from other regional offices. Additionally, one was loosely allocated for HR meetings to provide a space for confidential meetings when needed. New magnetic glass whiteboards were installed in the meeting rooms and the boardroom throughout.

The Results
This project took on a unique approach, working with a ‘ready to use’ existing space, redesigning it and retaining certain elements and adapting these to meet the client’s needs. Working with this ethos allowed the clients budget to be carefully met whilst still achieving a smart, high-end aesthetic. Following the full redecoration works throughout all areas, left the office spaces with a light, fresh overall finish. The new layout and structure of the rooms now support the client’s operations, with the boardroom providing flexibility and choice to use the space according to their needs.
Despite many aspects remaining, the transformation was significant, creating a modern, corporate and cohesive workspace for our client to benefit from, whilst incorporating their branding and identity throughout.
As an existing long term client, we were approached to design and build their new office in Kings Hill due to the client relocating. The space had been fitted out prior to Covid to a decent specification, but our client required us to implement their higher standards across the floor area. This was all achieved at the design process due to the close interaction between our design team and the client. While having their budget in mind we were still able to input various high end finishes. During the works our projects team had close liaison with the client to keep them informed of progress and any variations required. The finished project is a great showcase for a high end fit-out in Kings Hill for our existing client, and adds to the collection of works we have achieved over the years in the Kings Hill business area.
