Client Brief
Rap Interiors received the enquiry via a referral from Albion Fine Foods. In 2023, we carried out a large-scale industrial fit out for Albion, which included the creation of a modern office and breakout floor.
Prior to contacting us, Vestey visited Albion Fine Foods’ Dartford office and were impressed with its functionality and design scheme. Therefore, Vestey wanted its office to have a similar look and feel, with minimalistic yet impactful Scandinavian-style theme.
The works for Vestey would entail the creation of an open office space, a breakout area, entrance, and multiple meetings rooms. Furthermore, as the project was an office relocation, it required expert project management to ensure a smooth transition into the London Victoria destination.

The Solution
Preparation
As the new space had previously been a postal sorting office, it had some existing features that we were able to use and adapt later. These included perimeter shelving, a functional kitchen, and natural wood flooring that the landlord restored before works began.
Furthermore, Vestey briefed us on the expected occupancy rates for each room. This helped the office space planning and furniture procurement process, giving our London office designers clear parameters to work within.

For the central office space, we referenced the Albion Fine Foods project by specifying products that give a sense of the great outdoors. These include desks with a natural wooden finish, acoustic wooden-panel feature walls, and bespoke planter troughs with faux foliage.
We installed the planter troughs on top of the perimeter storage, making for an impactful adaptation of an existing feature. Moreover, the faux foliage contained within the troughs reduces the need for maintenance while creating the atmosphere of a natural environment.
As the project developed, we learned that a member of the client’s team had suffered a severe back injury, which would help to inform our office furniture selection. After taking the client around the renowned Clerkenwell furniture showrooms, we added two height-adjustable desks to the main office, providing an ergonomic alternative to the static arrangement, as well as a specific task chair to provide the necessary back support.
Breakout Space

Vestey also wanted our designers to adapt the floorplan to include a small breakout area. Using their years of experience, the design team offered the simple yet effective solution of using a high back chair to zone off the space.
Combined with the existing kitchen, the Vestey team now has adequate facilities to help staff recharge and maintain a consistently high level of productivity.

Prior to developing the boardroom design, Vestey gave us a brief to fit as many occupants as possible into the space. With this in mind, our interior designers optimised the room to include ten occupants by specifying a large shared desk with upholstered chairs.
Within the meeting spaces, we installed slatted feature walls to reduce noise pollution and improve aesthetic interest. Additionally, we introduced a number of textured felt panels to further improve noise levels and the visual impact in these spaces.
Lighting was another key part of the meeting area design, with our designers sourcing three acoustic pendant lights. These are suspended over the meeting table, making for a warm, genial, and professional atmosphere.
Other Challenges and Key Features

As the design developed, our designers found that a door – situated in the centre of a glass-fronted office space – was limiting the project’s spatial possibilities. To overcome this, we made the decision to remove the existing glass front and replace it with a new elevation. The new glass partition includes a door to one side, which proved key in making the space functional again.
Other key features of the design include a new comms room, air con unit, a dedicated printing area, and a welcoming entrance area with branding printed on a standoff wall sign.

The Results
With the help of our designers and project team, Vestey enjoyed a seamless relocation and now has an office space fitting for its prime Victoria location. Like Albion Fine Foods, Vestey’s office has a sleek and practical design that gives employees everything they need to flourish.
From the height-adjustable desks to the breakout space to the meeting rooms with acoustic properties, the office is fully optimised for productivity and staff wellbeing. Furthermore, the natural elements give the space a Scandinavian character, helping to create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
These features will undoubtedly help Vestey to continue its remarkable success in the food industry.
