SIPCO completes over 8500 sq.m of SIP panels on Millwood SEN School.
SIPCO has recently completed over 8500 sq.m of SIPS (Structural insulated panels) to form the external walls and roof on aerial large1Millwood (SEN) school in Bury. SIPCO worked with ISG on the £9.1 million contract from Bury Council to build a special education needs school which will replace an existing nearby facility. The new school is built on a 5.7 acre site formerly the grounds of the closed Radcliffe High School.
ISG built the single storey steel frame structure featuring a central communal element and three distinct teaching clusters. The frame was then entirely clad using 175mm SIP Panels for both walls and roof. The school is designed to achive BREEAM excellent rating and incorporates a ground source heat pump, rainwater harvesting and re-use system, roof mounted photo voltaic arrays and natural ventilation.
The contractor chose Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS) to deliver a highly insulated building with greater levels of air tightness than more conventional methods.
