10,000-YEAR-OLD MAMMOTH FINDS HOME IN NEW SOPREMA HEAD OFFICE ‘LE GRAND CHARLES’
SOPREMA’s CSR strategy not only focuses on creating the products and solutions that will help us address today’s and tomorrow’s environmental and societal challenges; we also attach a lot of importance to putting people first. And while wellbeing at work is often a matter of open communication, mutual trust, providing ample learning opportunities and showing appreciation, the physical conditions of the workplace obviously contribute massively to employee happiness too. That is why, earlier this year, SOPREMA Group was very proud to announce its plans for our new head office, Le Grand Charles. Today, we offer a first glimpse of the iconic new building at the Port du Rhin in Strasbourg, and we introduce you to what will probably become its most famous resident: the SOPREMA mammoth – an ancient skeleton acquired by our CEO Pierre-Étienne Bindschedler in honour of the company logo. THE SOPREMA MAMMOTH: MAKING HEADLINES SOPREMA CEO Pierre-Étienne Bindschedler managing to buy one of the largest and most intact woolly mammoth skeletons ever found made headlines all over the world, from NBC News to the International Business Times. Discovered in Siberia and auctioned in France, the 10,000-year-old skeleton is an impressive 10 feet in height. Its two tusks each measure more than 9 feet in length and have a combined weight of 353 pounds. “FLYING MAMMUTHUS” IN STRASBOURG Experts have been speculating on the possibility of resurrecting the extinct mammoth based on well-preserved specimens such as SOPREMA’s. While science is still a long way from achieving that goal, our giant of the Ice Age has been making itself useful in other ways, dazzling the more than 300,000 visitors of “Flying Mammuthus” a while back. This spectacular urban installation was imagined by the artist Jacques Rival and created by Aquatique Show for an event called “The Magnificent Industry”. The aim of the event was to promote artistic creation, the industrial world and Alsace – and the aim of the water show commissioned by SOPREMA was, of course, to highlight our unique skeleton and to share this wonder with the world. COMING HOME TO LE GRAND CHARLES And now, finally, our mammoth is coming home to our new Strasbourg headquarters, where it will be displayed in all its glory. The name of the iconic building, Le Grand Charles, is a tribute to Charles Geisen, great-grandfather of Pierre-Étienne Bindschedler, who founded SOPREMA in 1908. With Le Grand Charles, SOPREMA not only provides its people with an inspiring and dynamic work environment where they can thrive, but also demonstrates its know-how and expertise in creating sustainable buildings. Outfitted with the very best solutions developed by the Group and thus showcasing SOPREMA’s wide range of eco-responsible systems, Le Grand Charles will contribute to the region’s biodiversity, optimise water management, reduce the urban heat island effect, maximise roof functionality and reduce fossil fuel consumption. AT YOUR SERVICE, AS ALWAYS Of course, while we are hard at work on Le Grand Charles, our customers will continue to receive our full attention. We remain at your service with premium waterproofing and insulation systems, as well as with the advice and calculations you need to make your project meet all the requirements. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with our experts should you have any questions.
