For over a hundred years, Soprema has been specialising in bituminous waterproofing. We continually adapt our offer to the demands of the construction industry, to changing legislation and to increasing environmental challenges. DUOFLEX hot melt structural waterproofing is a bituminous hot-melt system that provides a strong and durable, yet flexible and lightweight, self-healing monolithic barrier to the transmission of water and water vapour.
VERSATILE WATERPROOFING SYSTEM
DUOFLEX, a high-quality formulation of rubberised bitumen modified with styrene butadiene polymer resins (SBS), can be used for various applications:
• flat roofs, including areas with pedestrian access (covered with pavers or other suitable protection)
• inverted roofs (in combination with XPS insulation)
• zero fall roofs in line with BS6229 (DUOFLEX’s fast track construction eliminates the need for a screed, also allowing you to cut costs)
• plaza decks and podiums
• (extensive and intensive) green roofs or roof gardens (with the bituminous membrane SOPRALENE FLAM GARDENenabling a green roof to be installed on top of the DUOFLEX structural waterproofing system)
• blue roofs and water features
• plant and equipment bases
UNIQUE ADVANTAGES OF DUOFLEX HOT MELT
A DUOFLEX system is …
• designed to last the lifetime of the building, making it a sustainable and low-life-cycle-cost option.
• self-healing: DUOFLEX never fully cures, so small penetrations to the surface will heal automatically.
• 100% bonded to the structure, creating a monolithic barrier due to its unique blend of polymer modifications, while nevertheless remaining elastic and flexible enough to allow for structural movement.
• ideal for phased works. Because upstands and complex detailing can be completed first, other works can be done before DUOFLEX is then applied to the main areas of the roof.
• easy to use, even in temperatures as low as -15 °C. DUOFLEX comes in solid blocks ready for on-site melting (no mixing plant with agitators required). When heated to a temperature between 150 and 180 °C, the blocks turn into a liquid that will easily spread across the roof.
• BBA-approved.
• approved for unrestricted use by the current Building Regulations, if used with suitable ballast or paving on top.
• Covered by a 40-year warranty.
THE BUILD-UP OF A DUOFLEX SYSTEM
The Duoflex system is applied in two layers of 3 mm with reinforcement in between, providing a waterproofing layer with a minimum coating thickness of 6 mm. The system consists of:
• Elastocol 500 for priming substrates
• DUOFLEX Monolithic Membrane: the hot-applied, SBS-modified bitumen membrane
• TR200 DUOFLEX fleece: the polyester for reinforcing the system
• A protection layer, such as:
o SOPRALENE FLAM 180 TF: an SBS-modified bitumen membrane with a polyester reinforcement. The upper surface is finished with sand and the lower surface protected by a thermofusible film
o SOPRALENE FLAM 180 AF: an SBS-modified bitumen membrane with a polyester reinforcement. The upper surface is finished with slate. The selvedge is protected by polypropylene film and the lower surface by thermofusible film
o SOPRALENE FLAM 250 TF: an SBS-modified bitumen membrane with a polyester reinforcement. The upper surface is finished with sand and the lower surface is protected by thermofusible film
o SOPRALENE FLAM 250 AF: an SBS-modified bitumen membrane with a polyester reinforcement. The upper surface is finished with slate. The selvedge is protected by polypropylene film and the lower surface by thermofusible film
o SOPRALENE FLAM GARDEN 250 AF: an SBS-modified bitumen membrane, including an anti-root additive, with a polyester reinforcement, for use in green roof and roof garden specifications
o ELASTOPHENE 180-25: an SBS elastomeric bitumen membrane with a non-woven polyester reinforcement. Both sides are protected by thermofusible film.
