The many waterproofing solutions available from Soprema stand out in terms of durability and versatility, and FLAGON is no exception. This range of single-ply or synthetic membranes comes in PVC and in TPO. This article discusses the former option, which is often used for roofing applications such as stadiums, supermarkets, distribution centres, production facilities and complex profile designs. FLAGON PVC warm roof systems are BROOF(t4) tested and accredited in both fully adhered and mechanical fixed applications.
FLAGON PVC: UNIQUE ADVANTAGES
FLAGON PVC waterproofing membranes come with important advantages. They can fully bonded (adhered), mechanically fixed, and loose-laid and ballasted. FLAGON can be installed without the use of torch application as only hot air is required to seal the overlaps. It is a sustainable choice too, as the product’s components comprise PVC, which can be recycled.
The manufacturing process: Our entire PVC range is extruded – ensuring that the membranes are very flexible and easy to work with. Because the membranes are so soft and malleable, they are also easy to apply onto complex shapes. Moreover, they remain flexible at low temperatures and are unaffected by hot-cold cycles.
Our PVC membranes have superior technical characteristics such as dimensional stability and tear strength. FLAGON offers high mechanical resistance, resistance to static and dynamic puncturing, and to weathering and UV radiation. The membranes are adaptable to structural movement, rot proof, and vapour permeable. With a life expectancy of over 35 years, our PVC waterproofing membranes are exceptionally durable.
FLAGON PVC offers aesthetic freedom. It is available in practically any RAL colour as well as in copper, silver and zinc looks, and it is compatible with ALSAN PPMA. In other words: the liquid detailing can be done in the colour that matches the membrane. Moreover, the FLAGON range contains a wealth of ancillary items and can be used with many weld-on and decorative profiles.
In addition, FLAGON PVC is extremely lightweight, making it the go-to waterproofing option for lightweight steel frames. Add to that its BBA approval and the fact that it can cover large areas very quickly, and you know why FLAGON PVC has been the preferred choice for many stunning buildings in the UK in recent years.

SOPREMA PROJECTS: GET INSPIRED
Our versatile and user-friendly PVC waterproofing offering has found its way into numerous projects all over the UK.
1. NEW ATLAS WHARF DEVELOPMENT (LONDON)
For the New Atlas Wharf project, a riverside development in London, FLAGON PVC served to waterproof the walking canopies that lead to the many gardens. The membranes were light enough to go onto the lightweight steel frames of the canopies, while adding to the desired look. Our solution was installed twenty-three years ago, and the aesthetics are still as stunning today as they were right after the completion of the project.
2. SAINSBURY’S DISTRIBUTION CENTRE (CHARLTON)
When Sainsbury’s opened a brand-new distribution centre in Charlton, the use of FLAGON PVC ensured that, very soon after the steel frame was erected and the decking was installed, the 30,000 m2 roof could be waterproofed. Speedy installation was indeed key, allowing the supermarket chain to open their centre as soon as possible.
3. FISHERMAN’S BEACH PROJECT (FOLKSTONE)
For the large vertical wall areas of the Fisherman’s Beach project, too, PVC was used. Specifically, a lead-grey colour PVC membrane was selected to mimic a hard metal finish and a standing seam type cladding.
4. ADDITIONAL PROJECTS
Finally, FLAGON PVC played a lead role in projects such as the refurbishment of Leigh Road Baptist Church, and North Liverpool Academy and the Beach Retreat in Ramsgate.
