SOPREMA’s long history with water management projects dates back to 1912, i.e. the Möhne Reservoir in Germany. Since then, we have been developing a range of PVC and TPO geomembranes specifically for hydraulic projects, as well as geotextiles and geocomposites. Our products are exceptionally durable and easy to weld and install, and they help meet every liquid storage requirement – for salt water, liquids containing chemical substances or leachates, and even potable water. SOPREMA’s solutions for waterproofing hydraulic storage facilities guarantee a long service life and avoid soil contamination.
WATERPROOFING HYDRAULIC STRUCTURES
For waterproofing hydraulic structures, SOPREMA offers PVC and TPO geomembranes which are lightweight, flexible and easily welded – hence simple to install. The 2.10 m wide rolls can be adapted to different shapes and are available in a variety of colours to allow for optimal
integration of the structure into the landscape. In addition, SOPREMA produces a vast range of complementary accessories:
geotextiles for different applications and geocomposite for protection (TILTEX)
fastening solutions, such as washers, edge strips and laminated sheets
manual and automatic welding equipment
prefabricated FLAGON accessories like inside and outside corners, rainwater outlets, aerators and anchors
adhesives, glues and cleaners.
PVC GEOMEMBRANES
SOPREMA’s PVC geomembranes include FLAGON CSL and FLAGON SR – both exposed, UV-resistant membranes for basins, lakes, reservoirs and canals – and FLAGON A, a covered geomembrane which is resistant to hydrocarbons, for safety retention basins and reservoirs containing traces. FLAGON CSL and FLAGON A are non-reinforced, whereas FLAGON SR is a polyester-reinforced geomembrane. All of SOPREMA’s PVC geomembranes are flexible at low temperatures, providing good mechanical strength. Other advantages include their high tensile properties and high static and dynamic puncture resistance, and the fact that they are:
- unaffected by hot-cold cycles
- root-proof and resistant to micro-organisms
- safe to work with (flame-free application)
- self-extinguishing
Our geomembranes have a width of 2.10 m and a standard length of 20 or 40 m, depending on the product. Thicknesses vary between 1.0 mm and 3.0 mm. The choice of colours is unlimited.
TPO GEOMEMBRANES
FLAGON GEOP, SOPREMA’s TPO geomembrane range, is made of a mix of polypropylene and polyolefin resins. TPO is an environmentally friendly material, as
- it does not contain plasticiser,
- its mass per unit area is 25 % less than PVC
- and it is easily recyclable.
Other advantages of the FLAGON GEOP membranes include their resistance to UV degradation and weathering, flexibility at low temperatures, high stability, excellent geomembrane weldability, and their compatibility with bitumen. Moreover, our TPO geomembranes are unaffected by hot-cold cycles, root-proof and resistant to micro-organisms, and safe to install (flame-free).
APPLICATIONS IN WATER MANAGEMENT PROJECTS
SOPREMA’s membranes in PVC or TPO are excellent solutions for dams, either to be integrated into
the structure or to be laid on its surface. They ensure improved resistance and longer service life concerning new projects but can also be used to restore older structures. The SOPREMA Civils team can support projects to determine the best product considering the type of structure, the height of water, the amount of sun exposure, and so on.
Finally, SOPREMA develops specific PVC and TPO geomembranes for potable water storages. As you may already know, even in canals or lakes, the use of such approved products is often required for water to be suitable for drinking (after treatment).
