TFL awarded power station refurbishment contract
Tubular Fabrications Ltd (TFL) has successfully tendered for the fabrication and welding repairs on the flue gas de-sulphurisation plant at Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station. Commencing in June 2013, the job involves the refurbishment of the absorber steel work, modifications to the inner wall rings and grinding of all welded areas suitable for overlining with rubber sheet. TFL’s managing director Paul Rodgers said: “This is particularly satisfying as it represents several years of repeat orders at this station for this type of work, and involves good working relationships with several other contracting companies involved in the plant refurbishment.” TFL Engineering will also carry out major fabrication and welding repairs to the sector plate roof, which will be fully replaced in 15mm Corten plate. Duct walls, floors and roofs – where heavy corrosion has occurred – will be overplated and ground clean to make them suitable for glass flake lining by other contractors. In addition, existing low leak fan ducting, purge damper ducting and purge duct damper will be replaced; new ones will be fabricated at TFL’s works, transported to site and refitted to the original specification. Mr Rodgers added: “This job is on an extremely tight schedule and must be completed by the required date, so we’ll be supplying 36 men, divided between 12-hour day and night shifts, so repair teams can operate 24/7 to meet the deadline.” The work at Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station will be completed in full compliance with current CDM regulations.
