As of 31st March 2025, new Simpler Recycling legislation has come into effect, requiring businesses in England with 10 or more employees to sort their waste into at least three separate streams:
Dry recyclables – paper, card, plastic, metal, and glass
Food waste – all food scraps and waste
Residual waste – non-recyclable materials
These changes align England with waste management practices already in place in Scotland and Wales, supporting the UK’s sustainability and net-zero goals. Depending on local requirements, you may need to further separate recyclables, such as keeping glass, plastics, and paper/card in distinct bins.
