Lambrook School is a thriving independent school located in Winkfield. The school is home to boys and girls from nursery level right through to Year 8, and prides itself on high academic standards, excellent facilities and strong sporting, music and performing arts provision. The Lambrook experience combines first class teaching and superb facilities with traditional values, in the idyllic, tranquil surroundings of 52 acres of beautiful Berkshire countryside.

Challenge

As a school striving to provide the highest quality education to 560 pupils, efficient and reliable technology is a must. Lambrook needed to implement an effective managed print service which would give them back control of all printing and the costs involved.

They needed a solution that would not only provide them with a reliable and robust fleet of printers, but also give them the transparency to understand where they could improve efficiency and save money. Issues with their previous printers also resulted in downtime for staff, who were often left to deal with tasks such as replacing toner cartridges.

Solution

To understand more about the school’s requirements and ensure we could deliver a robust solution, we carried out a complete assessment of Lambrook’s existing print network. We proposed a complete managed print service and installed a standardised network of printers – six Canon MFDs and seven Samsung desktop printers – with our print management software, PaperCut installed on the Canon machines.

The hardware has given them assurance of fast, high quality printing across the whole school, whilst the software gives them control over every element of their printing. Features including a real-time audit trail of all print activity, for example, gives IT administrators complete visibility of print activity and the costs involved.

Greater transparency and cost savings
The transparent, reliable new system has delivered substantial cost savings whilst also improving performance and freeing up storage space.
Improved security
Staff can now print to any device but are only able to pick up their documents by scanning a RFID card.
Seamless integration
Staff were impressed by the quick and smooth integration of the new system with the school’s existing network.
Reduced waste
The PaperCut solution enables staff to monitor the volume of paper being used, which has significantly reduced waste paper.
Increased awareness
The transparency has helped curb print traffic, because staff are more aware of the volume and cost.
Automatic toner replacement
An alert is received when printer toner levels get down to 20%. A replacement can be requested instantly and a BTS engineer arrives within a few hours.
