Rolling out the wheel of engagement!

One of the great things about the EOA Annual Conference is that you come away with lots of new ideas. An exercise from one of this year’s most interactive break out session, known as ‘the wheel of engagement’, is one such idea that our partner Angharad Pearce, Senior Animator and Multimedia Designer, was keen to try with our wider organisation on her return.

The ’wheel of engagement’ activity was used at the conference to get attendees to think more clearly about the position of their own organisation on their EO journey, but it can be adapted to understand engagement levels in any situation. A range of statements are positioned on the spokes of a wheel, each with a ranking scale of 0 to 10, and individuals are asked to consider and score each statement. Scores are combined to give a total figure and are also connected on the wheel itself to generate a clear visual map of engagement. The resulting map provides a compelling view of highest performing areas and those which are in need of urgent attention.

Angharad has modified the wheel to suit the needs of DJS Research; each spoke is a key area which is deemed vital for the engagement and wellbeing of our partners. Throughout quarter one she has been running sessions with all teams across our business, explaining the idea behind the activity in full and giving everyone the opportunity to take part.

Speaking about taking the wheel of engagement on tour, Angharad said:

“It has been so interesting bringing this activity from the conference to each of the teams and seeing them engaging with it and hearing their thoughts and ideas. It's been a really positive experience and hopefully the learnings will play a part in helping us continue to improve the business together.”

By collating the results of this business wide exercise we hope to obtain valuable insight into current partner engagement levels – almost like a temperature check of where we are today. This will help us to not only identify areas most in need of improvement or intervention in the short term, but also to understand our strongest performing areas in the eyes of our partners. By repeating the exercise later in the year, we hope to see where we’ve been able to shift the dial to improve scores through tailored action.

This is just one great example of how the EOA Annual Conference continues to inspire us long after the event is over, for what we hope will be the long-term benefit of DJS Research.
