Understanding Euro Cylinder Locks

Euro locks are very common for Upvc and composite doors in europe, as they have become a standard choosing for modern builds that need higher security and ease of use.

Choosing the correct euro lock for your door comes down to 3 simple factors:

  • Overall Lock Size
  • Interior Size to Centre
  • Exterior Size to Centre

Replacing your Front Door Lock

If you are wanting to replace your euro lock then you need to measure your existing overall lock size and interior size to centre. Once you have these measurements you can find the same sized euro cylinder lock to replace you current one with.

The process of removing a euro lock is very simple. There is a small bolt on the edge of the door that attaches in to the hole in the middle of the euro lock that needs to be unscrews with a phillips head screwdriver. Once detached, simply push the lock through one side and out the other.

After this you can measure and place back in the door or replace with a new lock with the included bolt.

5 Pin Vs. 15 Pin Euro Locks

As the numbers in the name suggest, each lock have a select number of pins, these pins are seen on the flat areas of the key and are set at different heights.

With a 15 pin lock the key in inserted horizontally, this allows for more bumps and flats where the pins will connect and creates a more secure lock.
